WORK ORGANIZATION OF ONCOLOGY SERVICE IN REPUBLIC OF BASHKORTOSTAN IN A PANDEMIC OF COVID-19

Summary:
Introduction. In March 2020 World Health Organization (WHO) declared the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic. It is known that patients with chronic diseases – including cancerous diseases – have a great risk of having a severe viral infection of COVID-19. Objective. Work organization of oncology service in Republic of Bashkortostan in a pandemic of COVID-19. Materials and methods. There are 86.847 patients registered in Republic of Bashkortostan who have cancerous diseases, more than 13.000 new cases are registered annually. Restriction measures were introduced in SBHI RCOD MH RB since the end of March 2020 in order to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infection. Comparative analysis of specialized health-care services in conditions of pandemic from January to April 2020 was made, before and after the introduction of restriction measures: clinic visits (40.178 face-to-face consultations, 4.017 online consultations), finished cases in the round-the-clock and day care facilities of oncological establishments (2.586 surgery cases, 1.198 radiation therapy cases, 10.688 chemoterapy cases). Results and discussion. The amount of face-to-face consultations in April reduced to 61% comparing to January, the amount of online medical consultations increased by 1076% during the same period. The amount of surgery treatments remained stable during the first four months, careful selection of patients led to decreasing the amount of surgery treatments by 12%. The amount of finished cases using radiation therapy increased to 215% in April, the amount of finished cases using anti-cancer therapy increased to 110.8%, the whole amount of finished oncological cases increased to 117% compared to January, when there were no restriction measures. Conclusion. The received data of oncological services work in conditions of COVID-19 pandemic confirms the effectiveness of the anti-epidemiological measures taken by MH RB. Work organization of oncological services in RB allows to continue providing specialized medical assistance and minimizes risks of infections for patients and stuff.
