USE OF IT FOR MALNUTRITION SYNDROME MANAGEMENT IN ELDERLY RESIDENTS OF NURSING HOMES

Summary:
Relevance. An increase in human life expectancy naturally leads to an increase in age-associated diseases and conditions that require specific means and methods of treatment, rehabilitation and compensation for lost functions. One of these conditions is malnutrition syndrome, which occurs in 25% of elderly and 65% of senile people. Moreover, this syndrome is one of the leading syndromes in the development of frailty and other geriatric syndromes, for example, sarcopenia, loneliness due to hypomobility as a consequence of malnutrition, etc. and leads to constant need for health and social support. On the other hand, information technologies are actively involved in all spheres of life, and their use in diagnostics, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation is one of the most significant and important directions. The aim of the research is to study prevalence of malnutrition syndrome and its management in elderly people living in nursing homes using modern information technologies. Materials and methods. The subject of the research includes 97 elderly social care recipients (average age 64.7 2.4 years) living in a 24-hour social care institution (nursing homes for elderly people). The study used original computer programs (for smartphones and tablets) - "Optimization of outpatient care for elderly patients" (Certificate No. 2016614405) and "Optimization of nutrition for patients with malnutrition" (Certificate No. 2016614483). Research results. Malnutrition syndrome was diagnosed in 10.4% of elderly people, the risk malnutrition syndrome developing was diagnosed in 72.1% of elderly people. On the basis of the data obtained a program was developed to optimize nutrition for elderly people with malnutrition, living in nursing homes, using information technologies. Findings. The developed program aimed to optimize nutrition for elderly people with malnutrition, living in nursing homes, using information technologies leads to an improvement in nutritional status in 73.5% of elderly people.
