Summary:
Introduction. The sim of this study was analyze secular trends in the proportion of population aged 60-74 years and 75+ years in the population structure of the Krasnoyarsk territory. Moreover, we aimed to analyzed trends in mortality in these age-groups. Material and methods. The study used primary data on all deaths occurred in the Krasnoyarsk territory from 1999 to 2018. We collected data on the average annual population of in these age groups and assessed their share in the population structure of the Krasnoyarsk territory. Secular trends in the total mortality in these age-groups and their contribution to the structure of total mortality and life expectancy of the population of the Krasnoyarsk territory were studied. Results. The average annual number of the population aged 60-74 years increased by 13.8%, while the population of those aged 75+ increased by 72.5% over the 20-years study period. A significant increase in the average annual number of people in these age-groups combined with a decrease in the total average annual population has led to a significant increase in the proportion of these categories of population in the age structure of the Krasnoyarsk territory and a significant increase in the contribution of their mortality to the reduction of life expectancy. For the period from 1999 to 2018. among the elderly and senile, mortality from diseases of the circulatory system and respiratory diseases has significantly decreased. At the same time, the mortality rate from neoplasms increased by 7.3%. over the study period. Discussion. Our results provide quantitative estimates of the contribution of the elderly population to the population- and mortality structure in the Krasnoyarsk territory. Mortality in in this group has decreased in this group over the 20-year period resulting in an increased share of this group in the population structure and increased contribution to the overall mortality data and life expectancy estimates. Conclusions. The elderly population is an important category of the population that requires an analysis of comorbidities in order to improve medical care provision to this part of the population with the ultimate aim to increase duration and quality of life.
