BIOLOGICAL AGE AND DIABETIC RETINOPATHY IN MATURE PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS

Summary:
Introduction. Diabetic retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus, leading to a deterioration in the geriatric status of such patients. However, among the known risk factors for diabetic retinopathy, the influence of biological age remains virtually unknown. Purpose of the study: Study the biological age in mature patients with diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods. The study of biological age was carried out in 580 mature patients with diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus according to the method of Voitenko V.P. et al. [1984]. Based on the values of the difference between biological and chronological age, the examined patients were classified into the main group of 357 people with an excess of the chronological biological age by +3.0 years or more and a control group of 124 people with a correspondence of biological and chronological age. The examined patients of both groups did not have statistically significant differences in general somatic pathology at the stage of clinical compensation. Results. The frequency of diabetic retinopathy among mature patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and with chronological biological age exceeding was 19.82±1.32 cases per 100 examined, which is almost 2 times higher compared to mature patients with diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus with biological and chronological age matching and was 10.24±1.51 cases per 100 examined (p
