Summary:
Introduction: The study of the cytokine profile in individuals of different age groups who have identified an age-associated disease at an early stage is of practical interest in terms of early detection of pathology and timely prescription of corrective actions. Cytokine profile features may become an important aspect of secondary prevention. The purpose of the study: to study cytokine profile features in persons of different age groups with an identified age-associated disease (on the example of arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus). Materials and methods: In total, 80 people were included in the study, of which 30 were practically healthy persons (control group) and 50 patients with age-associated pathology (main group). Serum concentrations of the following cytokines were studied: interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α). Results: Quantification of cytokine concentrations demonstrated a consistent increase in proinflammatory factors (in particular, IL-6 and IL-8) in individuals with age-associated disease. In addition, an increase in concentration with age was shown for IL-6. At the same time, no association of TNF- α levels with age was found. Discussion: Significantly increased levels of cytokines such as IL-6 and IL-8 found in patients in the main group indicate a close association of age-associated pathology (using examples of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension) and chronic inflammation. In addition, a natural increase in these cytokines with age was found. The identified features are characteristic of the phenomenon of "inflammaging" - chronic age-related sluggish inflammation. Conclusion: The obtained results indicate the development of inflammatory processes as the body ages, which in the future can be used as an early pre-nosological diagnosis of a certain group of diseases.
