Summary:
Background. All over the world, the life expectancy of people is increasing, which naturally leads to an increase in the number of patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Depression and cognitive impairment are often comorbid conditions in both T2DM and various geriatric syndromes. Aim. To study the incidence of depression and cognitive impairment with frailty syndrome in elderly and senile patients with T2DM. Materials and methods. The cross-sectional study included 200 people with T2DM, of whom 163 were women (mean age 72,50±0,82 years) and 37 men (mean age 71,35±1,73 years). According to the results of the "Age is not a hindrance" questionnaire, all subjects were divided into 3 groups: "robust", "with pre-frailty" and "with frailty". Using a series of questionnaires and tests (MMSE, Geriatric Depression Scale, Clock Drawing Test), patients in each of the three groups were assessed for the presence / absence of depression and cognitive impairment. The ADDQoL questionnaire was used to determine the patients' subjective assessment of their quality of life. Results. In the study group of senile and elderly people suffering from T2DM, 50,5% of patients suffer from frailty, 36,5% from pre-frailty. Of the total number of people tested, 49,0% have depression, while 73,47% of them suffer from frailty. The presence of frailty syndrome in patients with T2DM significantly affects the formation of depression (χ2 = 45,616; p
