Summary:
The effect of an integrated approach to the malignant neoplasm’s treatment increases life expectancy after the verification of the diagnosis, which forms a contingent of people in need for palliative care. Currently, the average age of patients with malignant neoplasms in Russia, regardless of gender, is 64.5 years. The maximum incidence rate is recorded in the age range of 65-69 years (17.8%). A significant part - 57.9% - of all malignant neoplasms in the Russian Federation was detected at late stages, which does not allow achieving the expected result and thus incurable patients will need palliative care. Aims and objectives: Based on the frequency analysis of the first diagnosed cancer at the advanced stage, to form the need for palliative care for cancer patients in the constituent territory of the Russian Federation (Chelyabinsk region). Results. The structure of cancer patients hospitalized in the palliative care department has been stable for three years: patients with lung cancer account for 12.2%, breast cancer - 11.2%, prostate cancer - 10.2%, rectum cancer - 8.3%, stomach cancer - 7.3%, colon cancer – 3.3%, bladder cancer and cervix cancer – 3.1% each, which allows planning the need for this type of medical care. Conclusion. By 2025, in the Chelyabinsk region, the level of patients with stage IV malignant neoplasms will be 92 cases per 100,000 populations in only eight localizations, in absolute terms; this is 3,146 patients potentially in need of palliative care. 1. The total level of neglect of the five localizations of cancer by 2020 increased by 16.3% and continues to grow, with the exception of breast cancer. 2. The forecast of the total level of neglect of eight localizations of malignant neoplasms for 2025 was 92 new patients with stage IV for every 100, 000 of the population, or a total of 3,146 new patients. 3. Only for the provision of palliative care for these new patients with stage IV cancer, it will be necessary to increase the bed capacity of the palliative service by 5 times in 2025.
