Summary:
Introduction. Alcohol consumption for many hundreds of years remains one of the most difficult and dangerous addictions for humanity due to huge medical, social, moral, ethical, economic and spiritual losses. Alcohol remains one of the leading causes of mortality in the working-age population not only of our country, but of Europe and the world as a whole.
The purpose of the study: to study the quantitative and qualitative indicators of the ethanol content in the blood of patients admitted to the emergency hospital.
Materials and methods. The material was the data of the Chemical and Toxicological Laboratory of St. Petersburg Research Institute of St. Petersburg. I.I. Dzhanelidze for a 5-year period (2018-2022), comparative analysis, statistical and analytical methods were used.
Results and discussion. During the observation period, more than 100 thousand studies on ethanol were carried out, about 20 thousand studies per year. There was an increase in the proportion of patients with alcohol, the reason for hospitalization of which was the pathology of the trauma profile (superficial injuries - by 16.4%, fractures - by 9.4%), in absolute values, the number of patients increased by 3.9 and 4.5 times, respectively. There was also a significant increase in the number of surgical patients with identified ethanol in the blood (3.4 times). There was a decrease in the number of patients admitted with a diagnosis of alcohol poisoning by 2.2 times and the proportion of patients with this diagnosis by 19.6%. A significant proportion of examined patients (50,1±10,3%) had negative or low analysis results ( 3.5 g/L) accounted for 10,1±3,8%, their share decreased significantly by 2022 (to 5.8%).
Conclusion. Of fundamental importance is the development of mechanisms aimed at improving the system of medical care for patients with alcohol factor. Competent logistics of patients and staff should ensure the separation of patient admission flows, the allocation of service areas that take into account the specifics of patients. These measures should ensure the availability and quality of medical care, comfortable conditions for staying in a medical organization, both patients with ethanol in the blood and patients without addictions.
