Summary:
Background. The Arctic is one of the priority regions for Russia's development; organizing the fight against tuberculosis in the Arctic is current task. Objective: to study the features of the epidemiology of tuberculosis and the role of various factors in the development of the disease among indigenous peoples of the North (INN) living in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area. Methods. Information on 2521 new tuberculosis cases (including 688 INN and 1853 non-indigenous permanent residents (NPR)), registered in 2010–2023 was studied. Used standard methods of statistical processing of information, including odds ratio (OR), 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). Results. Three periods of development of the epidemic situation regarding tuberculosis among indigenous minorities have been identified: a rapid decrease in incidence in 2010–2013; stabilization of the incidence indicators at a high level in 2013–2019; reduction and stabilization of the indicators in 2020–2023. The incidence of tuberculosis is highest among the nenets, which exceeds the incidence of the khanty (pence of these factors among in newly diagnosed tuberculosis patient. Perhaps the spread of tuberculosis among INN is hampered by the low rate of drug addiction (absent in patients with tuberculosis), the lower prevalence of HIV infection and diabetes mellitus, which is indirectly indicated by the low frequency of these diseases in newly diagnosed tuberculosis patients.
Keywords epidemiology of tuberculosis, tuberculosis among the peoples of the North, tuberculosis among indigenous people, risk factors for tuberculosis.
