Summary:
Introduction. In this paper, the results of questionnaire survey of pharmaceutical professionals regarding the issues of drug safety monitoring system (pharmacovigilance) are processed.
The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge of pharmacy professionals (pharmacy managers, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) regarding the pharmacovigilance system, as well as to conduct a detailed review of professionals' opinion on adverse events and comparative analysis of the frequency of adverse events among pharmacy professionals.
The materials and methods of the study were a specially designed questionnaire using Google-forms service. Analysis of questionnaire results included calculation of Fisher's exact test, comparative analysis of frequencies of adverse events using Pearson's chi-square test and non-parametric test with Wilcoxon's W-criterion to determine the perception of pharmacovigilance activities.
The discussion notes that the vast majority of pharmacists encounter adverse events in their practice. Pharmacy supervisors are more likely to detect lack of therapeutic effect, there is a comparable incidence of unanticipated adverse reactions among all positions and pharmacists are the most likely (67%) to detect drug incompatibility. As a result of non-parametric test it was noted that pharmacy workers evaluate the need for software for better provision of consultative services higher than the willingness to participate in the PV system, in case of implementation of local documents regulating its work.
Conclusion. Thus, the assessment of pharmacists' knowledge revealed the absence of developed documents of standard operating procedures and methodological manuals related to the system of medicines safety monitoring in some pharmacies. About one third of the specialists reported the absence of both SOPs and methodological manual in the pharmacies they work in. Given the fact that the majority of specialists had experienced adverse events and only 6.9% had made a notification to Roszdravnadzor, this issue needs more detailed research aimed at staff training, development of supporting documentation and possibly pharmaceutical counselling software.
