Summary:
Relevance: Obesity is a serious standalone condition that is becoming increasingly prevalent among the population of our country. Obesity burdens the somatic status of patients and thereby strains the healthcare system. The absence of new effective models to combat this pathology poses a significant challenge to domestic medicine.
Research Objective: To assess primary medical care provided to patients diagnosed with obesity.
Materials and Methods: The study utilized forms from the Federal Statistical Observation No. 12 "Information on the number of diseases registered among patients residing in the service area of the medical organization" and Federal Statistical Observation No. 14 "Information on the activities of units of the medical organization providing medical care in inpatient settings" across the Russian Federation. Descriptive statistical methods were employed for processing and analyzing the data.
Results. In general, for the period 2017-2022, the number of registered obese adults (18 and older) in the Russian Federation increased by 132,814 people (+8.9%), which directly reflects the increasing scale of this phenomenon. Despite the increase in the growth of the full coverage of adult patients with obesity for dispensary observations in recent years (2017-2022 = 7.89%), despite the easy and accessible diagnosis of obesity in people, it has not yet reached 50% of the number of identified. The timeliness of taking adult patients with obesity for dispensary observation has increased recently, for the period from 2017-2022 the indicator increased by 11.64%, but still remains low. There is an increase in hospitalizations with a diagnosis of obesity in the elderly population group (42.92% over the reporting period), which directly indicates the presence of an adequate condition when providing medical care in an outpatient setting.
Discussion: The increasing prevalence of obesity among Russians necessitates a reevaluation of management algorithms for such patients. The diagnosis of obesity requires adequate attention due to its social significance. It is essential to continue improving early prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of obesity to prevent somatic and metabolic disorders.
Conclusions: Despite positive trends in assessing the provision of primary medical care to the population with obesity, it remains insufficient at present, considering the position of obesity within the overall disease burden structure.
