Summary:
Introduction. One of the goals of the national project «Healthcare» is to achieve almost full staffing of units providing outpatient care with doctors and nurses. Job satisfaction affects the motivation and psychological state of doctors, which can affect the quality of medical care provided by them, as well as contribute to achieving the goal of the national project. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to assess the job satisfaction of endocrinologists providing medical care on an outpatient basis. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional medico-sociological study was conducted in 16 subjects of the Russian Federation. The method of random selection was used when forming a sample population. The study included 177 questionnaires. The critical significance level was taken equal to 0.05. Calculation of 95% confidence intervals (CI) was carried out by the Fisher method. Statistical data processing was carried out using the SPSS ver. 23. Results. The level of satisfaction with the workplace of an endocrinologist (office, furniture, equipment, etc.) averaged 2.98 points, satisfaction with the organization of processes related to the work of an endocrinologist, such as filling out sick leave certificates and medical commissions — 3.28 points, the workload level of endocrinologists — 4.64 points on a five-point scale. Approximately two-thirds of respondents reported that they do not have enough time during patient appointments to work with the Federal Register of patients with diabetes mellitus, and they fill it out later (66.3%, 95% CI: 61.4–71.1). Most respondents spend more than half of their working time on medical documentation (65.5%, 95% CI: 60.6–70.3), while 37.5% of endocrinologists duplicate over 60% of medical records in paper and electronic form (37.5%, 95% CI: 32.6–42.5). About 40.3% of respondents often stay at work for more than half an hour (95% CI: 35.3–45.4). The main reason for the delays of most respondents is the paperwork outside of patient appointments (73.9%, 95% CI: 69.3–78.3). Discussion. Despite the large number of publications devoted to assessing job satisfaction among medical workers, there is a lack of research on endocrinologists providing outpatient care. In addition to the factors affecting job satisfaction of endocrinologists highlighted in this article, the authors also note that support from managers, especially regarding professional development, high pay, reduced workload, multitasking and the amount of medical documentation filled out have a positive impact on the level of satisfaction of medical personnel. Also, some authors point out that low job satisfaction directly negatively affects the intention to change jobs. Conclusions. The results obtained indicate a number of problems in the organization of the work process and can be used to optimize working conditions and improve the efficiency of endocrinologists.
