Summary:
Introduction. The problems of population, quality of life and health of the population of the Far Eastern Federal District, which ensures economic growth and strengthens Russia's economic position in the Asia-Pacific region, are strategically important for the demographic security of the country. According to WHO, infant mortality rate, or mortality of children in the first year of life, along with average life expectancy, is an integral indicator of the quality of life of the population in the world (WHO, 2022). In the Russian Federation, the problem of reducing infant mortality rate is of particular importance, because the preservation of each successful life truly becomes a factor in the national security of the state. Infant mortality rate has always been considered a "sensitive barometer" of the social well-being of society as a whole.
Objective. Study of long-term dynamics of infant mortality rate in the Far Eastern Federal District.
Materials and methods. The method of typical sampling was used to study the growth/decline rates of mortality and birth rate in the country as a whole and in the Far Eastern Federal District, features of medical care for newborns over the past five decades.
Results. In this study, a group of authors conducted an analytical review of demographic data (indicators of infant mortality rate, birth rate, number of deceased children under 1 year of age) from the point of view of dynamics and time, reflecting the infant mortality rate from all sides, and, most importantly, its connection with the birth rate.
Discussions. A longitudinal study of the infant mortality rate is significant and necessary for the heads of health authorities, representatives of executive and legislative authorities to form new target regional programs in the health care system to provide medical care to women and children, taking into account modern challenges and the emergence of new technologies in the obstetrics system.
Conclusions. It has been confirmed that a high infant mortality rate for regions with low population density does not reflect the efficiency of work and organization of medical care, while it is important to assess the rate of dynamics of the infant mortality rate and birth rate in the region. The indicators in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, as a region with such a characteristic, demonstrate sufficient rates of decline against the background of a decline in the birth rate.
