Summary:
Abstract. Aim. To review the available data on the rehabilitation of chronic pain syndrome in elderly patients and their motivation for it
Materials and methods: A search was made in the databases Scopus, Web of Science, MedLine, The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Global Health, CyberLeninka, RISC using the keywords “motivation for rehabilitation”, “chronic pain syndrome”, “rehabilitation of pain syndrome” , as well as “motivation for rehabilitation”, “chronic pain”, “pain rehabilitation”. Results and discussion: according to the literature data we obtained, currently interest in increasing motivation has increased significantly. In the geriatric population, it is especially important, since in elderly patients chronic pain syndrome is more pronounced, is more often recorded and is more severe and longer lasting than in younger individuals. It has been shown that with reduced motivation for rehabilitation, its effectiveness is significantly reduced. Currently, there is a shift away from the view of aging as a continuous process of degradation, ending in death from one or another catastrophic situation - cardiovascular, cancer, etc. A large amount of research is devoted to looking at the benefits that older patients can bring to themselves and society in the modern world. Conclusion. Motivation for rehabilitation is an essential component of rehabilitation treatment for chronic pain syndromes, and not only for them. Motivation is a complex concept that must be considered not only from a medical point of view, but also from a psychological and social point of view. If the patient lacks motivation, all rehabilitation measures sharply reduce their intensity. A medical psychologist working as part of an interdisciplinary team plays a very important role in increasing patient motivation. If it is possible to achieve high motivation of the patient for success, it can be assumed that the goals of rehabilitation treatment have been achieved.
Keywords motivation for rehabilitation, chronic pain, chronic pain, pain rehabilitation
