Relevance: Since the last decade of the 20th century, in all countries of the European region, including the Russian Federation, socio-economic development has been accompanied by an increase in life expectancy and an increase in the proportion of the population over 60 years of age. Modern researches predict a significant increase in the elderly population, which could reach 29% by the beginning of 2030. We should consider aging and deterioration of dental health as a whole, as this requires interdisciplinary, comprehensive and coordinated interaction at all stages of medical and social care for the elderly population. The increase in asthenic negative manifestations, disruption of socio-psychological adaptation, physical and senile helplessness in old age require special approaches to organizing and providing medical care for dental diseases. Thus, the study of the medical and social characteristics of patients with senile asthenia suggests the need to develop measures for preparing to and providing with dental care. Purpose: To study the medical and social profile of patients with senile asthenia for the subsequent development of organizational measures to improve medical care for dental diseases. Materials and research methods: The basis for the study was the regional geriatric center and dental department, which are part of the Regional Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Ivanovo Clinical Hospital named after Kuvayevs”. The material collection program included a study of primary medical documentation of 420 patients with senile asthenia “Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment Card” and a survey of patients using a specially developed questionnaire. Research methods: sociological, statistical, and analytical. Results of the study: Among the patients in the study group, 78.8% were women; the majority of patients were in the age group of 75-89 years (76.9%); most of the patients (88.1%) had residence in the regional center; 74.2% had secondary specialized and higher education; 78.2% lived in families; 79.8% needed periodic and constant outside help; 95.5% had pronounced and moderate limitations in transport mobility and ability to move. Conclusions: We must take the medical and social profile of patients with senile asthenia and the severity of its course into account not only when delivering dental treatment, but also when preparing the patient for it, and therefore an interdisciplinary approach of medical specialists is required to carry out diagnostic and therapeutic measures. This will reduce risks of development of undesirable general reactions in this group of patients.
