Summary:
Introduction. The quality of life in modern gerontology and geriatrics refers to the concept of healthy aging and health promotion in old age. However, the prospects for understanding the relationship between individual changes in quality of life and aspects of psychological potential are scarce and require more attention.
The aim of the study to classification of life quality models in patients of different ages and the influence of socio-demographic and psychosocial factors on them.
Materials and methods. A randomized, one-time cohort study of quality of life was performed among 354 patients of various ages (45-59 years, 60-74 years, 75-89 years). The World Health Organization's short questionnaire on Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) was used to assess the level and classification of quality of life models. A scale of gratitude, a scale of perceived social support, and a test of dispositional optimism were also used.
The results of the study. According to the four WHOQOL-BREF subscales, middle-aged patients had the highest rates compared to other age groups. The highest score in the group of patients aged 45-59 years was 75,0±0,4 points for physical health, and the lowest score was for social relations. Patients aged 75-89 had the lowest quality of life in all four subscales compared to other age groups, especially in the psychological field, and therefore were called a subgroup of "low quality of life" with poor psychological health. Senile patients with a weekly frequency of physical activity (OR=7,75, CI 3,88–15,47), increased optimism (OR=1,44, CI 1,32–1,55), gratitude (OR=1,09, CI 1,07–1,10) and social support (OR=1,11, CI 1,05–1,15) can improve the quality class life from low to moderate or high with increased probability.
Conclusion. Among the studied age groups, middle-aged patients were classified as a subgroup of "high quality of life", and patients aged 75-89 years had a low quality of life. The results of the study can help gerontologists and geriatricians identify patients at risk of poor quality of life and provide them with targeted and effective interventions to improve their quality of life.
