Summary:
Introduction The issue of ensuring road safety within the country continues to be a significant concern. The continuous increase in the vehicle fleet, among other factors, contributes to an increase in road accidents, with the severity of their consequences being comparable to a national catastrophe. Causes: there are several factors that contribute to fatalities resulting from road accidents. These include poor road conditions, lack of driving skills, impaired driving due to alcohol, inattentiveness, and a lack of driving culture. Other contributing factors include: - Poor road infrastructure - Lack of awareness among drivers - Inadequate enforcement of traffic laws - Insufficient training for new drivers. Significance: while there has been an annual decline in the number of accidents, the rate of injuries and fatalities on roads in Russia remains high, both for the working population and children under 17. Providing timely medical assistance at all stages is of utmost importance. The purpose of this analysis is to examine the implementation of measures aimed at reducing deaths caused by road accidents in the region over the period from 2015 to 2023. Materials and Methods. Monitoring data on the implementation of measures to reduce road traffic fatalities for the period 2015–2023, hereinafter referred to as "Monitoring", conducted by the Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM), a structural unit of the Orenburg Clinical Emergency Medical Station. Results. An analysis of monitoring data for the Orenburg region for the period 2015-2023 has shown that the number of victims, fatalities, and deaths from traffic accidents decreased by 1.6 times. The average annual figure for this period was (-260.7). In terms of the composition of the number of people injured, killed, and deceased as a result of accidents, individuals of working age account for 75% and children aged 0-17 years account for 5.1%. It is worth noting that the growth rate in the number of fatalities at the scene of accidents decreased 1.4-fold for the period between 2015 and 2023. Approximately 94% of all calls regarding accidents are for incidents with a response time of up to 20 minutes. Furthermore, it is worth noting that there was a 26% decrease in the number of emergency medical team visits due to calls regarding "accidents" during the study period. Conclusion The implementation of measures to reduce road accident-related deaths in the Orenburg Region has been effective during the period from 2015 to 2023. This is evident not only in the decrease in the number of road accidents, but also in the reduction of the number of injuries and fatalities. This applies to all segments of the population and is particularly significant for people in working age, as road traffic-related injuries are the leading cause of death among this group. As the number of fatalities in hospitals and trauma centers has decreased, we can conclude not only the effectiveness of efforts to reduce road accident deaths through improved road safety measures, but also through enhanced performance of medical organizations in treating injuries resulting from such accidents.
