Introduction. Professional communities play a central role in the life of a doctor, providing a wide range of opportunities for continuous development and expansion of competencies throughout his career. Aim. To identify modern approaches of communities of doctors in the field of ensuring the professional development of their members. Methods. Queries are executed in the Google search engine in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese. Access to the websites of 204 foreign professional communities of doctors was opened. Information on approaches to ensuring and stimulating professional growth was found on the websites of 84 foreign professional communities of doctors. Results. Professional communities of doctors abroad, solving the issues of professional development of their members, are guided by the concept of good medical practice. To comply with this concept, professional communities are developing and modernizing measures and tools to ensure and control the professional development system. The levels of professional competence are highlighted. Individual plans for the professional development of a doctor are developed in 4 domains of good medical practice. The institute of mentoring has been introduced. It is mandatory to provide quality improvement reports and regular active interaction with community members. The assessment of clinical practice and personal qualities of a doctor is introduced. Strict requirements have been established for subscribing to professional journals and presenting the results of work at scientific and practical events, in professional journals. Mentoring and recommendations from community members are mandatory. A restriction has been introduced on attempts to confirm the level of professional development. Discussion. The approaches of foreign medical communities in the field of ensuring the professional development of their members correspond to the ethical concept of the medical profession, which implies commitment to professionalism and protection of the interests of patients. Conclusions. Modern approaches of foreign societies of doctors to ensure continuous improvement of professional competencies of community members can be used by domestic institutes of professional education, as well as for the transformation of the categorization system of doctors.
