MODIFIED TREATMENT STRATEGY FOR ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS AS A TOOL FOR INFLUENCE ON THE MAIN INDICATORS OF GERIATRIC STATUS

Summary:
One of the most important demographic processes in the modern world is considered to be the aging of the population. Along with the increase in life expectancy, there is a parallel increase in the number of chronic age-associated diseases, which rightfully include type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). One of the main problems of elderly patients with T2DM is a higher risk of developing many geriatric syndromes. Therefore, the main goal of T2DM therapy in the elderly is not only to achieve target blood glucose levels without the risk of developing hypoglycemic conditions, but also to improve the geriatric status, as well as maintaining the patient's autonomy and quality of life.
Aim: to evaluate the effect of the proposed modified therapy strategy for elderly patients with DM2 on geriatric status using a comprehensive geriatric assessment.
Materials and methods. The study included 80 patients (2 groups of elderly women). Group 1 - 40 patients with T2DM receiving traditional hypoglycemic therapy: dietary supplement No. 9, gliclazide SR, metformin, physical activity. Group 2 - 40 patients with T2DM receiving a modified therapy strategy: dietary supplement No. 9, gliclazide SR, metformin, Subetta, cholecalciferol drops (saturating dose for a month, then maintenance dose), physical activity. Patient complaints, medical history, anthropometric parameters were studied, a comprehensive geriatric assessment was performed, and the quality of life was examined using the SF-36 questionnaire.
