Summary:
Relevance. Currently, there is no specific indication for geriatric patients which non-drug therapy method to use in the treatment of back pain. As a rule, therapy is limited to pain relief with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which, acting on the enzyme cyclooxygenase, can cause undesirable side effects in people with a polymorbid background. For example, ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, lability of blood pressure, ischemic myocardial damage, increased blood glucose levels, headaches, impaired functioning of the urinary system, etc.) [3]. This circumstance makes it necessary to limit the use of NSAID monotherapy in order to avoid exacerbation of concomitant pathology [4,5]. The use of individual orthopedic correction tools in the complex treatment of elderly and senile patients would allow doctors to eliminate pain symptoms faster by maintaining the correct axial load on the spinal column and large joints, and thereby contribute to improving the quality of life of this category of people, which confirms the relevance of the chosen topic. Goal. Based on the conducted research, to scientifically substantiate the effect of the use of individual orthopedic correction products (orthopedic insoles, corsets, bandages) on the course of pain symptoms in the lower back in elderly and senile people. Materials and methods. The study included 237 patients with a diagnosis of deforming dorsopathy with a burdened medical history (diabetes mellitus with an achieved target level of glycemia, hypertension in the stage of drug compensation, osteoarthritis of the axial joints with FNS 1-2, cerebrovascular pathology in the stage of compensation). All patients underwent examination and treatment in the period from September 2022 to April 2023. Results. This article demonstrates the positive effect of the use of individual orthopedic correction products (orthopedic insoles, corsets, bandages) on the course of lower back pain in elderly and senile people. However, orthopedic support in isolation will not have the proper effect without the complex impact of other factors on older age groups (the use of kinesiotherapy, physiotherapy, participation in the active longevity program, physical therapy). Conclusions. An analysis of the data obtained indicates that in the complex treatment of elderly and senile patients with deforming dorsopathies, the use of non-drug therapy (orthopedic corset and individual orthopedic insoles) is an effective method of therapy of the musculoskeletal system.
