Summary:
Introduction. The trend of recent years has been an increase in the number of people over 18 years of age who need palliative care, which is associated with both the growth in the number of intractable diseases, primarily oncological diseases, and the increase in the proportion of citizens over the working age. Therefore, medical organizations are faced with the task of improving measures to provide the necessary assistance to citizens with incurable progressive diseases and using the population's capabilities to provide assistance and care for incurable patients. The aim of the study. To study and analyze the population’s readiness to care for seriously ill relatives, to develop and implement an optimal training program for caring for sick people. Materials and methods of the study. In order to assess the satisfaction of the population with the availability and quality of palliative medical care, an anonymous sociological survey was conducted in October 2023 - February 2024 among relatives and legal representatives of patients receiving palliative medical care (hereinafter referred to as PMC) at the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Moscow Region "Balashikha Hospital". The survey was conducted using a questionnaire developed by the authors of the study, approved at a meeting of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare of the State Budgetary Institution of Higher Education "Russian University of Medicine" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The questionnaire included questions about typical problems faced by relatives of patients when providing PMC to their relatives, satisfaction with the quality of the organization of PMC at the outpatient stage, attitudes towards independent care of a palliative patient and readiness to carry it out. The study involved 202 people: 76 men and 126 women aged 18 to 79 years. Results of the study and their discussion. The study found that 65% of respondents are ready, if necessary, to care for relatives in need of palliative care; 35% of respondents are not ready for this type of activity. 87% of respondents "ready to care" need training in care skills, 13% believe that they do not need training. More than half of respondents (52%) expressed the opinion that training of relatives and/or caregivers should take place in person at a medical organization, 34% believe that it is enough to organize online training by employees of the medical organization, and 14% are for independent training using educational materials provided by the medical organization and the opportunity to consult with specialists. Conclusion: The study showed high public interest in the problems of providing palliative care at home and willingness to participate in activities to improve the quality of life of patients in need of care and emotional support from the family.
