Summary:
The satisfaction of the population with the quality of medical care is one of the key indicators of the effectiveness of healthcare organizations. The assessment of patient satisfaction with the quality of clinic services is conducted in various ways, including through surveys, which serve as an important tool for feedback from patients, understanding their needs and wishes, making management decisions, and evaluating the outcomes of quality improvement efforts. Additionally, an essential aspect of healthcare quality is public awareness of screening programs aimed at detecting diseases at early stages and providing recommendations for health promotion and maintenance. These programs are based on one of the fundamental principles of prevention—early detection of diseases among high-risk populations. Awareness of screening programs for diabetic retinopathy among patients with diabetes is very important. Most diabetic patients do not associate their condition with the risk of blindness and do not understand the significance of eye examinations. However, diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness and visual impairment worldwide among working-age individuals.
Purpose study: to examine patient satisfaction with the quality of medical care in the Tomsk region, as well as their awareness and adherence to digital screening for diabetic retinopathy.
Materials and methods: a survey of 557 patients with diabetes and diabetic retinopathy was conducted throughout 2023, as well as in the first and second quarters of 2024 in the Tomsk region. The questionnaire consisted of 39 mandatory questions. The survey results were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. Data processing was carried out using "MS Office Excel 2010" spreadsheets.
Results: The analysis of the survey results showed that 71.50% of respondents are satisfied with their stay in healthcare facilities in the Tomsk region and with the examination and treatment of eye diseases. Patients in 74.07% have satisfactory knowledge about retinopathy; however, considering that among them, 44.44% have partial knowledge, this issue requires further improvement. It was found that 7.72% of respondents do not visit outpatient clinics to see an ophthalmologist. Overall, the quality of medical care in the Tomsk region was rated highly by 100% of respondents. However, given the increasing incidence of retinopathy, it is necessary to implement digital solutions for its early diagnosis. All surveyed respondents had a positive attitude towards the introduction of free digital screening in the region.
