Summary:
The problem of technogenic xenobiotic air pollution is one of the most urgent in most economically developed countries, including the Russian Federation. It is particularly important in regions of ecological crisis, such as Donbass. However, to date, a full-fledged analysis of the indicators of anthropogenic contamination by suspended solids in the air basin of cities in this region has not been carried out, which makes it impossible to determine the degree of its potential danger to public health.
The purpose of the study is to establish long–term patterns of distribution of suspended solids in the air basin of Donbass cities for further substantiation and development of measures to reduce their negative impact on public health.
Materials and methods. The study of the levels and dynamics of anthropogenic pollution by suspended atmospheric substances was carried out in eight of the largest cities of Donbass over a 36-year period (1985-2020). Using the method of hygienic analysis, materials obtained as a result of measurements carried out by employees of the State Committee for Hydrometeorology, the Central Geophysical Observatory, the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service and stationary atmospheric monitoring posts of industrial enterprises in the region were studied.
Results and discussion. Modern patterns of levels and dynamics of suspended solids content in the air basin of Donbass cities over a 36-year period (1985-2020) by their average annual atmospheric concentrations have been studied. The distribution of Donbass cities into groups has been studied, depending on the predominance of various industries in the structure of their atmospheric emissions. The potential of anthropogenic pollution of the air basin by suspended solids in various cities of the region has been determined.
Conclusion. The results of the work made it possible to identify a feature of the dynamics of the suspended solids content in the atmospheric air of cities in the technogenic region, which consists in its wave-like nature (a decrease in atmospheric concentrations of the analyzed xenobiotic in the first half of the observation year and their increase in the second). Groups of Donbass cities with reliably maximum and minimum suspended solids contents in the air basin have been identified.
