Summary:
Relevance. The increasing proportion of the elderly population and the high prevalence of frailty, accompanied by multimorbidity and functional limitations, create specific barriers to receiving dental care. This necessitates the scientific substantiation of comprehensive, individualized, and interdisciplinary models of dental care organization for this patient population. Purpose. To conduct a comprehensive assessment of dental care preparedness among patients with frailty. Materials and methods. The study was conducted at the geriatric center and dental department of the Regional Budgetary Healthcare Institution "Ivanovo Clinical Hospital named after the Kuvayevs" (Ivanovo). The study involved 420 patients aged 60 years and older (men, 21.6%; women, 78.4%) with varying degrees of frailty severity. The mean age was 78.6±4.7 years. The level of patient preparedness for dental treatment was determined using an integral indicator based on four key components, scored in points and subsequently converted into a percentage. Results. The integral assessment of patient preparedness for dental treatment was 69.4%, corresponding to a low level. The greatest potential for improvement was identified in the domains of social (35.1%) and informational (33.3%) preparedness, followed by psychological (29.2%) and general somatic (24.9%) preparedness. Patients requiring assistance from others and those with mobility limitations warrant special attention, as these factors create additional barriers to accessing dental care. Conclusions. The obtained data revealed a low level of overall preparedness for dental care among patients with frailty, exacerbated by high dependency on external assistance, lack of information, and psychological unpreparedness. This indicates the necessity for comprehensive interdisciplinary collaboration between dental and geriatric services.
