Summary:
The establishment of cosmetology as an independent medical specialty in Russia necessitated the creation of a system for internal quality control and safety of medical activities (IQC), taking into account the specific risks of the field.
Objective. To study the specifics of the internal quality control and safety system for medical activities when organizing medical care in the field of "cosmetology" in outpatient settings.
Materials and methods. An analysis was conducted of scientific publications in the Scopus, Web of Science, eLibrary and other databases, as well as regulatory and legal documents for the period 2019–2026. The selection of 143 sources was based on relevance criteria and practical significance for organizing internal quality control in the field of "cosmetology.".
Results&Discussion. An evolution in approaches to quality control in the provision of medical care is observed, including in the field of "cosmetology." In international practice, IOS and JSI standards, as well as voluntary accreditation, are applied. Russia has developed an extensive methodological framework for organizing IQC in medical organizations; however, it does not account for the unique combination of clinical, reputational, and commercial risks associated with providing medical care in the field of "cosmetology" in outpatient settings. The key objects of IQC in the provision of medical care in the field of "cosmetology" should include not only medical procedures but also communication with the patient and management of their expectations. The existing regulatory framework for organizing IQC in the Russian Federation, both general and specifically aimed at providing medical care in the field of "cosmetology," continues to be actively developed.
Conclusion. The review revealed the absence of a holistic, scientifically substantiated model of IQC for the field of "cosmetology" in outpatient settings. This potentially leads to the formalization of IQC and a reduction in its effectiveness in the provision of medical care in the field of "cosmetology." The development of such a model, considering the specific characteristics of the field, represents a relevant scientific and practical task.
