Cough is a protective process that aims to remove irritant agents against the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract with laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, bronchial asthma and other diseases. The characteristics of 41 herbal medicines, which are used in the pharmacotherapy of cough, are considered. Based on the analysis of instructions for the medical use of 41 medicine and literature data, information is systematized: on indications for use and contraindications; independent clinical trials; on the possibility of using these medicines in children, in women during pregnancy and lactation; drug interactions and other important aspects of effective pharmaceutical care. The features of the pharmacological action of medicinal plants (from which these medicines are manufactured) are revealed. The analysis of the assortment of medicines on the pharmaceutical market of the Republic of Belarus showed the following: 30 medicines are produced in a liquid dosage form, 11 medicines - in a solid dosage form; of them only 26,8% of medicines are produced by Belarusian manufacturers, and only in a liquid dosage form. The price availability is assessed in the work and calculates the cost of a seven-day course of therapy for adults. The analysis showed that the cost of therapy varies widely from 1,32 rubles to 153,51 rubles. Low cost of the course of therapy has 35.14% of the medicines. Only 25,8% of medicines in liquid dosage form and 38,4% of medicines in solid dosage form in the 1st package will provide the patient with a course dose for 7 days. Wide assortment of antitussive herbal medicines allows pharmaceutical workers to help consumers (pharmacy visitors) make their choice in accordance with personal preferences and financial opportunities.
