Actuality: Optimization of the management of the range of medicines in a medical organization ensures the rational use of funding allocated for these purposes. Provision of medical organization in the specific conditions of local markets for medical and pharmaceutical services is particularly important. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of measures to optimize the procurement of medicines for inpatient units and day hospitals of a medical organization. Materials and methods: The article presents the results of a retrospective ABC / VEN analysis of the cost of medicines in 2018 and a comparative analysis with the figures for 2010 of a large multidisciplinary medical organization operating in the local medical and pharmaceutical market, due to the location of the organization in a closed administrative entity. Results and discussion: ABC and VEN analyzes conducted in Clinical Hospital No. 42 for 2010 and 2018 revealed certain trends and outlined the certain tasks in the process of optimizing the expenditure of drugs funding. Conclusions were formulated and specific recommendations were made according to the results of the analysis aimed to improving the quality of medical care in terms of prescribing drugs from the Formulary list in accordance with clinical guidelines, standards and procedures for providing medical care; when planning costs, one should be guided by an analysis of the structure of the treated patients for the previous period
