The high prevalence of age-related macular degeneration among the elderly population, which often leads to blindness, insufficient study of the cytokine profile and antioxidant changes in patients with this pathology at a late stage determine the relevance of the problem. The aim of the study was to study the content and correlation of parameters of systemic cytokine and antioxidant status in AMD at a late stage in elderly patients. Material end methods. 57 patients with stage 4 age-related macular degeneration aged 60-75 years and control group of anatomical age were examined. The level of cytokines in the blood was determined on a flow cytometer, and the indicators of the antioxidant system by spectrophimetric method and on the complex "Tsvet-Yauza-01-AA". Results. A significant decrease in serum anti - inflammatory cytokines and interferons and a significant increase in IL – 1β, IL – 2, IL – 8, IL-18 were found. The activity of the antioxidant system according to the studied parameters is significantly reduced. The correlation method has exposed a direct connection between anti-inflammatory cytokines and activity superoksiddismutazy and antioxidational activity. Feedback is established between IL-1β, IL-8, IL-18 and superoxide dismutase, glutathione oxidase and catalase. Conclusion. Identification of features and the ratio of cytokine and antioxidant status should be used in the diagnosis of advanced age macular degeneration in the elderly.
