Summary:
The aim of the study was to monitor the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the TB care system in Russia as of May 2020. Methods. We used the response data for the request as part of the collection of information for the TB and COVID-19 section of the WHO global tuberculosis report, monthly operational monitoring data from January to May (for public healthcare) or June (for prison healthcare) 2019 and 2020. To correct the effect on the indicators of long-term trends of reducing the incidence of tuberculosis and mortality from it, a regression analysis was performed according to operational monitoring data from 2015 to 2019. The calculation of indicators was carried out in% relative to the same period of the previous year. Results. There is a decrease in outpatient care, an increase in the time for handing out anti-TB drugs, the expansion of distance counseling and video-controlled treatment, the establishment of observational departments, the reduction of sanatorium treatment, the reduction of planned hospitalization of patients, the increase in the cost of personal protective equipment, and the mobilization of some employees to combat COVID-19 and some of the laboratory and diagnostic resources (PCR diagnostics, CT) for the diagnosis of COVID-19. With a decrease in the coverage of tuberculosis examinations, the number of patients detected relative to the expected number decreased slightly (about 4%). No significant excess mortality from tuberculosis was detected. The availability of anti-TB drugs remains at last year's level. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the departmental TB care system in prisons was not identified. Conclusion. As of May 2020, to avoid the significant negative impact on the system of TB care, noted in other countries. In order for such epidemic situations not to lead to stress for the TB care system, it is advisable to continue the introduction of video-controlled treatment technologies, the introduction of diagnostic and therapeutic measures without a patient visiting a specialized office.
