The role of international and national initiatives in restraining HIV and AIDS epidemics by increasing availability of antiretroviral therapy (ART) is studied in the article. The chief role globally belongs to UN and its structures (UNAIDS, UNICEF), WHO, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, The World Bank and others. Among na-tional initiatives one should mention such as programs of African Union, President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, Clinton foundation, whose activity is aimed at the prevention and treatment of HIV / AIDS, especially in the countries of the African region, where there is the largest in the world number of HIV-infected and AIDS patients. Thanks to the taken measures the increase of the population access to the antiretroviral medicaments and epidemics restraining are registered.
