Summary:
Introduction. Female prisoners have special health care needs compared to male prisoners. The study of the nutritional status of this category of convicts using the bioimpedance measurement method has not previously been carried out and is of great scientific interest. Aim. Analysis of the results of bioimpedance research in women prisoners. Materials and methods. The main group of the study consisted of 42 convicted women. To study the influence of socio-psychological characteristics on the phenotype of women, two groups were identified. The first group (n = 14) showed signs of masculinization of the phenotype. The second group (n = 28) - ordinary women convicts (feminine group). All women underwent a single bioimpedance examination. The data of anthropometric measurements, clinical diagnosis, length of stay in the correctional facility were analyzed. The control group consisted of 105448 healthy women, examined by the method of bioimpedance measurement in health centers. The absolute and relative indicators of body composition were assessed: fatty and lean body mass, active cellular and musculoskeletal mass, total body water content, cellular and extracellular fluids, basal metabolic rate and other indicators. Results and discussion. The prevalence of abdominal obesity in the analyzed group was slightly higher than the population data. Most women were at risk for metabolic syndrome. The socio-psychological characteristics of the convicted women were compared. When analyzing the components of body composition, it was found that in the first group, the percentage of body fat was lower than in the second group. Body fat index was higher in the second group. The percentage of musculoskeletal mass in women of the phenotypically masculine group was 37.3%, and in the second group - 32.7% (p = 0.0002). In women of the first group, the percentage of musculoskeletal mass was 49.4% of the lean mass, and in the second group - 46.6% (p
