Summary:
Geriatric syndromes significantly impair the patient's functional activity. However, they are rarely studied in ophthalmic patients. The aim of the study was to analyze the prevalence of major clinical geriatric syndromes in patients with visual deficits. Materials and methods: clinical geriatric syndromes and individual viability were studied in 220 patients aged 60-74 with primary glaucoma and cataract, 200 patients aged 75-89 with glaucoma and cataract, and 240 patients with macular degeneration. Patients underwent comprehensive geriatric and ophthalmological examinations. Research result: The high prevalence of clinical geriatric syndromes in patients 75-89 years old with glaucoma and cataract was found, which is significantly higher than in patients 60-74 years old with glaucoma and cataract in 10 syndromes and 4 syndromes against patients 75-89 years old with age-related macular degeneration. The average number of clinical geriatric syndromes is 5.43±0.09, 3.5±0.06, and 5.15±0.08, respectively. the Presence of clinical geriatric syndromes significantly reduces the individual viability of these patients. Conclusion: Clinical geriatric syndromes are an indicator of individual viability.
Keywords clinical geriatric syndromes, glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration
