Introduction. In 2018, in connection of the tasks of the national project "Demography" and the federal project "Strengthening Public Health", the formation of a new preventive structure – public health centers began. Рurpose. To assess the readiness of the existing preventive structures - Centers for medical prevention to move to a new format of work - Public health centers. Тo analyze the regulatory documentation and staffing. Material and methods. Normative documents on the organization of activities of preventive structures, data form № 70 for 2014-2019. Methods: content analysis, descriptive statistics. Results and discussion. The analysis of organizational orders showed that the domestic system of medical prevention formed on the current tasks related to the protection of public health. At the same time, with each new order, the scope of its activities and responsibilities expanded. Order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation №1177n introduces new functions, which requires the inclusion of employees with education in the field of economics, law, and analytics. It is also necessary to resolve the issue of the participation of psychologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, pediatricians, etc. in the work of the Centers and interaction with the main specialists. Over the past 6 years, there has been no significant positive dynamics in the staffing. In a large number of regional Centers, some positions are not occupied, but often are not even provided for in the staffing table. Conclusions. The implementation of the federal project "Strengthening Public Health" sets the task of qualitative changes in preventive work. It is necessary to revise the approaches to the organization of activities Public health centers: the formation of staffing, the introduction of new positions, staffing specialists, the development of technologies, organization of intra- and interagency cooperation. The reporting information should reflect the actual preventive work in the region. Since Centers for medical prevention continue to operate in some Russian regions, it is necessary to ensure uniformity in the provision of information about their work and comparability of data. This will allow us to analyze the indicators according to a single methodology, evaluate dynamics, and carry out scientific forecasting and activity planning.
