Summary:
Quality of life is an integrated concept that characterizes the conditions of life and everyday life of a person from objective and subjective positions from the point of view of medicine, psychology and sociology. In recent decades, respiratory diseases are ubiquitous among the entire world population, so the study of the results of questionnaires in patients with pulmonary pathology to assess their quality of life is currently the most relevant.
Aim. The aim of the research was to study the mental and physical indicators of the quality of life in patients with respiratory diseases.
Materials and methods. The SF-36 questionnaire was used to study the indicators on the base of pulmonary department of State-Funded Healthcare Institution of the Republic of Bashkortostan “City Clinical Hospital No. 13” in Ufa. The object of the study was patients with respiratory diseases. The sample for the study was 874 respondents. The results of the survey were processed according to the questionnaire instructions. The final results were submitted in the form of ratings on the quality of life scales following to the approved methodology. The statistical processing of obtained results consisted of statistical data analysis and computer processing by standard programs. The Student's t-test made it possible to define confidence level of distinctions between the indicators.
Results. The scientific article reflects the results of the research of quality of life scales in patients with pulmonary pathology. Significant distinctions in gender, age and duration of disease in the respondents are identified: the assessment of the physical indicator of the quality of life is lower than the assessment of the mental indicator among men and women; indicators of the physical and mental components in persons older than the working age are significantly lower than in the able-bodied; low indicators of the physical and mental components in patients with a more than 10 years disease duration. This indicates a significant physical activity restriction of such patients, subjective dissatisfaction with the state of health, a decrease in overall vitality due to frequent relapses of both: the underlying disease and comorbid state, emotional instability and depressive status among the elderly and senile age.
The presented low indicators of the life quality in patients with respiratory diseases according to the analyzed scales indicate the need for further improvement of medical and preventive care for the population with pulmonary pathology in modern society.
Keywords questionnaire SF-36, respiratory diseases, quality of life assessment.
