Glaucoma is often combined with diabetic retinopathy and significantly worsens the geriatric profile of patients. However, the features of deficiency syndromes in elderly patients with this ophthalmopathology have not been sufficiently studied. The aim of the study was to identify specific geriatric syndromes in patients with glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Materials and methods: The study of the deficit status of patients aged 60-74 years was carried out on the basis of a comprehensive geriatric assessment of 280 people with glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. The control group consisted of 240 patients with somatic pathology and no ophthalmic diseases. In these groups, clinical geriatric syndromes and cognitive impairment syndrome were studied in depth. Results of the study: Among the obtained clinical geriatric syndromes in elderly patients with glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, the following are statistically significantly more common: cognitive impairment syndrome (53.9±3.0 vs. 29.6±2.9 per 100 patients), falling syndrome (47.8±3.0 vs. 16.7±2.4), hypomobility (41.1±2.9 vs. 17.9±2.5) and anxiety-depressive syndrome (42.9±2.9 vs. 22.9±2.7), which should be considered specific for patients with this ophthalmic pathology. Conclusion: These features of the deficit status should be taken into account when examining patients with glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
