Summary:
Actuality. The current global trend is that the structure of the population is steadily moving towards an increase in the percentage of elderly and senile people in the population. Due to the fact that the age group of 60 years and older in 100% of cases has dental pathologies (caries and its complications, periodontal disease, etc.), the number of patients' visits for the treatment of secondary adentia has also increased. Due to the development of modern dental implantation techniques, there are no age restrictions for its use. It all depends on the general somatic condition of the elderly patient, as well as his geriatric status. Questionnaires and scales can be used to establish the geriatric status in a dental clinic.
Objective: To substantiate the use of geriatric questionnaires and scales in the clinic of dental implantology in elderly patients.
Materials and methods: 57 elderly people from 61 to 72 years old were included in the study. This group of patients underwent implantological treatment for secondary complete and partial adentia. The patients refused the option of restoring the dentition with the help of removable prosthetics. Before treatment a geriatric assessment of patients' status was carried out using the following questionnaires and scales: questionnaire for assessing the impact of oral health on the quality of life OHIP-14, MNA short nutritional assessment scale, Mini-COG test, Philadelphia geriatric morale questionnaire scale ”, the RSA (Resilience Scale for Adults) age vitality scale.
Results and discussions: When using questionnaires and scales in elderly patients before implantological treatment, it was revealed that together with dental pathology ( secondary complete and partial adentia), the quality of life in patients decreased. Against this background, concomitant geriatric syndromes appeared and/or worsened - malnutrition syndrome (40%), senile asthenia syndrome (3%), anxiety and feelings of loneliness intensified (66%).
Conclusion: The experience of using scales and questionnaires in elderly patients in a dental implantology clinic showed that the use and ability to interpret the results of geriatric questionnaires and scales by dentists allows them to correctly build a clinical dialogue with patients of this age category, draw up a treatment plan taking into account their somatic, psychological and personality traits and limitations. The results of a geriatric examination using questionnaires and scales can be used to draw up protocols for the provision of dental care to the elderly, taking into account the peculiarities of the treatment of this group of patients.
