Summary:
Introduction. In the current conditions of demographic aging of the population, it is urgent to improve social and medical care for elderly and senile people, to develop modern approaches to the organization of social and medical work in a long-term care facility, taking into account the health status of elderly people. Goal. To study the issues of providing social and medical care depending on the geriatric status in a long-term care facility. Materials and methods. Using the computer program "Optimization of care in geriatrics depending on the degree of senile asthenia", the geriatric status of elderly and senile people in an inpatient social institution was analyzed. The prevalence of the main geriatric syndromes has been studied: impaired mobility, malnourishment syndrome, cognitive impairment, the level of dependence on outside help. The issues of interaction of specialists providing social and medical assistance to elderly and senile people are considered. Results. All the examined patients had signs of senile asthenia of varying severity. It was revealed that the most significant syndromes affecting dependence on outside help are impaired general motor activity and impaired cognitive functions. Discussions. Taking into account the prevalence of the main geriatric syndromes, social and medical care for long-term care should be differentiated depending on the geriatric status of the elderly. All measures for long-term care can be implemented only in the conditions of interdisciplinary interaction of specialists of the institution. A necessary condition for working in a long-term care facility is overcoming ageism among the specialists of institutions, including improving the gerontological competence of staff working with the elderly. Conclusion. A comprehensive practical approach to the organization of social and medical work in a long-term care facility should be differentiated depending on the geriatric status, which will solve the main task of long-term care to improve the quality of life of elderly and senile people, taking into account their health status and regardless of their place of residence.
Keywords social and medical work, geriatric status, long-term care institution, elderly people.
