Summary:
Introduction. The significance of the coronavirus infection problem is due to the global spread and high mortality rate of the population around the world, so the need for vaccination for the Covid-19 prevention is urgent. Coronavirus has a huge potential for genetic mutations. To date, mutated strains of the virus are several tens of times more contagious than the original strain of SARS-CoV-2. According to the latest data, the high mutation ability of the virus causes an increase in the incidence among young people. Aim. to study the awareness and attitude of young people in the age groups from 18 to 30 years to vaccination against Covid-19, the prevalence of vaccine use in these groups, as well as identifying the reasons that prompted people to agree or refuse to be vaccinated. Material and methods. A sociological study was conducted among the young population of the Kursk region from 18 to 30 years old according to the original questionnaire "Awareness of youth about vaccination for the prevention of Сovid-19" (n=1200) using an electronic Google form in December 2021. Results and discussion. The majority of respondents answered positively to the question about the existence of coronavirus infection (91.7%) and received a vaccine against Covid-19 (82%). The most common reasons that prompted the implementation of this procedure are the requirements of employers and the management of educational institutions (57.3%), as well as the possibility of free access to public places (47.3%). The vast majority of respondents (71.6%) believe that vaccination is the only possible way to stop the Covid-19 pandemic and return the population to their usual rhythm of life. 18% of young people identified the following reasons for their refusal to be vaccinated: the presence of medical contraindications (10%), a coronavirus infection in the past 6 months (40%). The reasons for refusing to vaccinate among the respondents who had no medical contraindications and had not had Covid-19 in the past six months were negative reviews on the Internet (60%), fear of post-vaccination complications and distrust in the quality of the Covid-19 vaccine (20%), conviction in the need to obtain immunity in a natural way, that is, after an illness (15%), general distrust in the need for vaccination (5%). Conclusion. Most of the young people who participated in the survey in the age group from 18 to 30 years old in the Kursk region are convinced of the positive effect of the vaccine against coronavirus infection, as well as its necessity for the entire population, with the exception of those with medical contraindications.
