Introduction. At the present time, due to the growing number of elderly and senile patients among patients of surgical hospitals, and an increase in the number of them with geriatric syndromes, science is facing new ways of treating and rehabilitating these patients. The purpose of the study. The aim of the study was to develop new methods for the prevention of geriatric syndromes and senile asthenia in elderly and senile patients in the postoperative period. Materials and methods. A study was conducted with two groups of patients with geriatric syndromes who were hospitalized for planned surgical treatment for gallstone disease and hernias of the anterior abdominal wall. The developed methods of prevention of geriatric syndromes and senile asthenia were applied to the main group, the other group was a control group. The complex consisted of diet therapy, physical therapy, prevention of falls and prevention of bedsores. Diet therapy is aimed at maintaining the energy needs of the patient's body in the postoperative period. The set of exercises was used at the preoperative and postoperative stages. Results. The functional status analysis was carried out using the computer program "Specialized geriatric examination in surgery" (Certificate of State Registration No. 2013660311). The indicators were measured before the operation and 30 days after the surgical treatment. Tables are presented for several observed indicators, which reflect the improvement of the indicators of the main group. Discussions. Thanks to the developed rehabilitation program, the stability index in the main group improved by 6.2%, the walking parameters index improved in the main group by 8.1%, the risk of developing the malnutrition syndrome revealed in the main group, an improvement in indicators for the 1st part of the study by 12.5%, for the 2nd part of the study by 20.5%. Conclusions. This study shows that we are moving in the right direction, and further study of this topic is required to solve the tasks set.
