Introduction. The number of convicts in the Krasnoyarsk Territory remains at a high level. The health care system of penitentiary institutions is often limited to combating infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV infection and viral hepatitis. Concentrating all efforts on detecting these infections, there is a chance to miss other pathological conditions, which also threaten the health and life of the prisoner and cause large economic losses for the budget of medical institutions. In addition, in order to understand the health status of the prisoner, it is important to see the general picture of the life of the person who has been imprisoned: his social profile, living conditions before imprisonment, presence and absence of bad habits, etc. The purpose of this study was to study the medical and social characteristics of prisoners in the system of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Materials and methods. In the course of the study, 328 respondents in different correctional colonies of Krasnoyarsk Territory were interviewed. The survey was conducted in 2023. The Shapiro-Wilk criterion was used to determine whether the quantitative data obeyed the law of normal distribution. All quantitative data obtained from the survey did not obey the law of normal distribution, they are presented in the form of median, first and third quartile (Me [Q1; Q3]), as well as minimum and maximum. Qualitative data are presented in absolute values and percentages. Results. This article presents the following characteristics of the prisoners participating in the study: age, gender, BMI, level of education, marital status, occupation and profession, living conditions before imprisonment, the presence and absence of bad habits and chronic diseases. The results of a survey on the frequency of requests for medical help and self-assessment of health by prisoners are also presented. Conclusions. The prisoners participating in the interview are characterized by low medical activity and low level of education, high infection with oncogenic microorganisms. There is also widespread smoking and low self-esteem of health status among respondents.
