Introduction (relevance). In modern medical care, one of the key tasks is to minimize risks to the patient. In this regard, assessing the risk of an adverse event is an integral part of the work of medical workers. One way to conduct such an assessment is to examine the skills of health care workers. A well-trained specialist who has the necessary knowledge and skills can significantly reduce the likelihood of errors and undesirable consequences when treating patients. This article shows how risk assessment is carried out based on the skills of health care workers and how this can affect the quality of health care. Target. Preventing the possibility of adverse events to improve the quality of patient care. Materials and methods. Assessment of professional knowledge and skills through testing, assessment of competence through modeling situations and analysis of records of professional activities, assessment of social and communication skills through sociological testing and analysis of the behavior of specialists in various situations. Results. The analysis of undesirable events and the causes of their occurrence allows us to regularly identify vulnerabilities in the healthcare system and develop measures to eliminate them. Conclusion. Thus, optimization of medical practice should be based on an integrated approach, which includes increasing the professional competence of medical workers, monitoring the implementation of procedures, analyzing adverse events and improving communication between medical staff and patients.
