Summary:
Relevance: The current trend of demographic aging of the population, both throughout the world and in the Russian Federation, is to increase the proportion of people older than working age among other age groups, which leads to an increase in the number of geriatric patients who visit medical organizations of the dental profile, thereby fixing the priority of the gerontostomatological orientation of the medical service. Dental health has a direct impact on the overall well-being of the body and is a kind of indicator of overall health. Numerous studies indicate a close relationship between oral diseases and systemic diseases. In order to maintain individual viability and healthy aging, prevent dental diseases and rehabilitate elderly and senile patients, it is necessary to develop the interaction of dentists with other medical specialists, which should help increase functional abilities, improve the quality of human life and, as a result, prolong it. Purpose: To study the organizational aspects of providing dental care to elderly and senile patients with polymorbid pathology. Materiais and methods: The analysis of published scientific articles on this problem is carried out. Research results: The issues of organizing dental care for elderly and senile patients have a practical aspect for both dentists and doctors of other specialties. The inseparability of oral health and the general state of the body as a whole has been established. This confirms the need to take measures to develop, organize and improve medical and social assistance to this population. In this connection, the treatment and rehabilitation of geriatric patients with dental pathology provide for an integrated approach not only of a dentist, but also of doctors of other specialties, which involves the creation of interdisciplinary teams. At the same time, the main tasks to achieve this goal are programs for the development of primary medical care on dental health issues and the organization of care for patients with limited mobility at home. Conclusions: The study and analysis of published scientific works indicate the presence of a close relationship between oral diseases and systemic diseases in elderly and senile patients accumulated throughout life. In this connection, in the treatment and rehabilitation of geriatric patients, an integrated approach is needed both by a dentist and a number of doctors of other specialties.
