Summary:
The prevalence of overweight and obesity in children and adults in the world in the 21st century is acquiring the scale of an epidemic. Obesity in childhood is the leading determinant of obesity later in life, the main risk factor for the development of a number of other chronic diseases, i.e. comorbidity.
Purpose: to study the morbidity of obesity in children in the Russian Federation in the context of different age groups and regions in the period 2018-2023.
Materials and methods. The materials of the study were the data of annual reporting forms of federal statistical observation No. 12 “Information on the number of diseases registered in patients living in the service area of the medical organization”, domestic and foreign scientific publications on the topic of the study.
Results. It is shown that in the Russian Federation obesity among children aged 0-17 years takes the first place in the structure of morbidity of children with diseases of the endocrine system, nutritional disorders and metabolic disorders, and by 2023 the increase in the total morbidity of obesity in children amounted to 22.2%. Over six years, the increase in childhood obesity has occurred in all federal districts of the country by 11-52%.
The most significant increase in the general morbidity of obesity among all age groups of children occurred in children 10-14 years old: 258.8 cases per 100 thousand children 10-14 years old, and the highest level of general and primary morbidity of obesity among children falls on the age of 15-17 years old: 3,683.4 and 864.0 cases per 100 thousand children 15-17 years old.
Conclusions. The growth of obesity morbidity in all age groups of children and in all federal districts of the Russian Federation over a six-year period indicates the need to intensify comprehensive measures to prevent and combat obesity among children, considering current clinical recommendations and the most effective global practices.
