Summary:
Introduction. Poor quality of communication in healthcare, difficulties in communicating and understanding what is heard, worsen treatment results and reduce patient satisfaction. Since these communication skills cannot be improved only with the help of acquired clinical experience, the training of medical professionals can have a positive impact on the work of specialists, the quality of medical care, and reduce the likelihood of medical errors.
The purpose of the study: to assess the formation of professional communicative competencies in a group of medical university residents during the practice-oriented stage of primary specialized accreditation.
Materials and methods. The evaluation of the effectiveness of the training course "Communications in Healthcare" developed and listened to by resident doctors was carried out during the practice-oriented stage of primary specialized accreditation. The acquired professional communicative competencies were studied in two groups: the main one - 37 resident doctors, of whom 18 people (48.6%) studied in the residency in the specialty "Obstetrics and Gynecology" and 19 people (51.4%) - in the specialty "Therapy", and in the control group – 32 people who did not undergo additional training, Of these, 15 resident doctors in the specialty "Obstetrics and Gynecology" (46.8%) and 17 (53.2%) in the specialty "Therapy".
Results: During the passage of the stations of the practice-oriented stage of primary specialized accreditation by resident doctors who were additionally trained in the basics of communication with the patient, they demonstrated a statistically significantly higher average score (84.9±5.1) than in the comparison group - 73.0±3.4. In the main group, the best results were observed among resident doctors specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, but no significant differences were found between them and internists.
Conclusion. We believe that the effectiveness of teaching communication skills to resident doctors should be improved as part of the implementation of higher education programs by training in a specialty and in the training of highly qualified personnel, passing training programs for scientific and pedagogical personnel, in the future - by organizing on-the-job training.
